Hannah Beausang is a freelance multimedia journalist and digital content creator who is based in California. She most recently worked as a TEFL-certified English teacher in Antigua, Guatemala, where she took intensive Spanish courses at an intermediate level.
Previously, she worked as reporter for The Press Democrat, a daily print and online publication in Santa Rosa, Calif. She covered Sonoma County government, breaking news and a wide array of local issues. As the lead county government reporter, she tracked the economic recovery of the diverse region in the aftermath of the deadly 2017 Tubbs fire.
She was also responsible for regularly producing video and multimedia content and using social media to bolster her reporting.
She has also worked as a features editor and subsequently, as a news editor for The Petaluma Argus-Courier. In addition to reporting, Hannah managed daily updates to the weekly print publication’s website and social media accounts. She oversaw a team of journalists and the editorial planning for a weekly print section. She was responsible for tracking analytics and optimizing content.
She has also worked as a reporter and editor at other publications in Sonoma and Marin counties. She has also contributed to major San Diego news outlets, including the San Diego Union-Tribune, NBC and the Times of San Diego.
She is comfortable with handling California Public Records Act requests, explaining nuanced public policies and working with large data sets. She has a passion for social justice issues.
She’s received top awards from the California Newspaper Publishers Association for local government, business, features, sports and education reporting, as well as honorable mentions for breaking news, sports and enterprise reporting. She was also awarded a scholarship from The National Gay and Lesbian Journalists Association, LA Chapter for her work covering a diverse community, as well as a first place San Diego Press Club award for a collaborative multimedia package produced for The Daily Aztec.
Hannah has a passion for storytelling, but mostly she thrives on deadline culture, eternal optimism and coffee.
She graduated from San Diego State in 2014 with a B.A. in journalism.
